I’m a single mom of 2 kids at home (ages 16 & 7). I’m trying real hard to prepare for emergencies but I have become overwhelmed in all the information. How many kits do I need? A car kit, a 72 hour kit for each person, a 3 day evacuation kit for the family, 2 weeks supply of food & water for pandemics, and on & on & on… Please help! I have started by trying to narrow down the ‘emergencies’ that we might expect where I live. I guess where I went crazy is with the idea that we need kits for each person (3) and a kit for the family and kit if we have a heat source and kit if we don’t, etc. Maybe, also, I’m trying to "over do the kits". I have made a kit for our family of 3 + dog, it contains food for 3 people for 3 days + the dog. Problem is, I can’t lift it by myself. Please help! What are you all doing?

our familly has this kinda of trash can like barrel full of canned foods and pastas, like things that last for a long time. water bottles. dog food. dog collars and leesh. we have a first aid kit.sleeping bag a few blankets. a can opener. this was optiontional but we decided to put 2 prepaid cell phones in with their chargers. i guess it depends on were you live. like down here in CA we have earthquakes especially were we live. and when like wild fire season comes along we make sure we have acsess to our camper/rv thing in case we have to evacuate. why do you carry many kits when you can narrow it down to one?

    Uh.. Ok.

My mom has 2 of them. Does she know where they are, probably not.

But, maybe you shouldn’t worry so much. Just keep the essentials.

    Good Luck

You know when you say or read a word over and over and over and it begins to lose it’s meaning? That happened a few minutes ago with the word "kit".

Anyway, we have no kits at our house. But we are in Australia.

I don’t think anyone I KNOW has a kit in their house :P
