Compact Survival Kit Pt. 2
Posted under: Category | 23 January 2008
Lets take a look at my “belt type” survival kit. It contains items that will help me to secure the most important survival needs such as Fire, Shelter, Water, and Food. I usually carry this kit on my belt but when I am not wearing it, I let it ride in my survival backpack. This is part 2.

Great vid, Nice kit …
Great vid, Nice kit. 5/5. I might add a multitool instead of the knife, maybe one of the bigger victorinox swiss army knives. Also, add a ziplock plastic bag, they have a wide range of uses. And to someone who said to use a pen flare, don’t. I have a friend who had one of those with him at all times outback, and it fired in hus pocket, and the flare burnt his stomach badly. Keep it up.

Excellent kit! I …
Excellent kit! I have a few suggestions:
Changes:
1. Use the biggest knife you can fit. A big knife can do everything a small knife can… better and easier.
2. Change the maglite out for an Inova X5 (it’s good for 20 hrs on a set of batteries.) Alkaline batteries don’t last in the cold.
Addtions:
-1gal ziplock (water, food, whatever)
-Duct tape. 10-20ft of duct tape can save your ass!
-BIC lighter in a baggie. Fire steel is great. A lighter is easier.

Excellent …
Excellent information and presentation. You’ve encuraged me to put together a similar pack. I’ll be checking out your other vids too. With me being more of a novice at this, I’m thinking of going with a slightly larger pack so I can fit a little more in it… maybe some compact foods and a few other things. Thanks.

Good idea, but maybe the foil packs of tuna would be even better as they’s take up less space.

This vid convinced me to go out and make my own survival kit today. Another thing I found that works is those coughlan waterproof match container/ survival tools works well to hold a survival fishing system in. It provides added redundancy and backups and it takes the same amount of space. Everything else is pretty much the same. I got that condor EMT pouch in Digital Camo on Amazon today also. Thanks for the great vid. 5/5.

Nice kit, though you should keep the chem light in the foil package it comes in because light will degrade it over time.

nutnfancy does have …
nutnfancy does have alot of first aid videos however he isn’t my first choice for expert advice on them. I am a Army Combat Medic and have reviewed his kits comparing to his knowledge of how to use them and for him and others without the proper training his kits are more trouble than they are worth. You should never pack a kit with stuff you are not trained to use. I personally design kits for Redcross/FEMA/Army and many other orgs.

Thanks for your …
Thanks for your suggestions This kit has been upgraded a bit since making this video, so I have made room to keep the light inside the kit itself. Prior to that, I did carry the light on the outside quite a bit with no problem. Better safe than sorry. Take Care.

pretty good kit and …
pretty good kit and video, I would trade the knife for a multi-tool, pliers can be handy. Also a good lighter, and most importantly the flahlight holder is not good. My flashlight has been knocked out of more secure holders than that one. Its very easy to lose loose things when your moving along in the wilderness. Atleast put a fastener over the top to keep it from popping out.
