“…First aid is the first assistance or treatment given to a casualty for any injury or sudden illness before the arrival of an ambulance or qualified medical expert…”
I found this summary on First Aid First on a website from Pakistan. The article entitled “Safety: In Case of Emergency”, gives a nice, brief description of some common emergencies, and how to administer basic first aid first – before medical assistance arrives.
Some things this site covers, like
- trouble breathing – how to do basic resuscitation
- severe bleeding – specific treatments based on location of the bleed
- drowning – how to resuscitate in deep water and on firm surface
- animal bite – including animal and snake bite treatments
- poison – immediate treatment suggestions, and signs to look for
- fractures – basic assessment and treatments
- electric shock – first aid for yourself while performing first aid for the victim is summarized
- heart attack – immediate assessment and treatment tips
- burns and scalds – suggested treatments for both minor and major burns and scalds
The article ends with the suggestion, “…There are proper institutions and facilities … that provide good quality first aid training courses for those who want to avail the opportunity. Facilities like St. John Ambulance Association….along with most local hospitals provide in-house training facilities where first aid training is also imparted…”

First Aid First Text Messaging
First aid first blog found this text messaging article from New Brunswick Canada. It shows how technology has affected youth attending major music festivals.
Normally, first aid first blog is about tips and tricks for incorporating first aid into your everyday. But this article here caught my eye.
It seems that people, mostly teens and late twenties, who are overcome with emotion at the appearance of their favorite star and later recover – do recover. The sign of their recovery, the ability to text shows that they are functioning, and are well.
According to the article, “…Based on a standard test of neurological function, having the co-ordination to hit the tiny buttons and send a text message indicates a sufficient degree of recovery…”
Go figger.
