I own a small Martial Arts school, and would like to teach my students CPR and first aid. I’d like them to get a CPR and First Aid card when they’re done, so they know that they know the real thing. How do I go about that?

I have my CPR instructor certification through the American Red Cross.

Biking is gaining popularity in the Philippines. More bikers are hitting the streets, forming organizations, and taking long biking trips. No matter the country, however, seeing free-wheeling bikers enjoying the wind blowing through their hair can evoke feelings of freedom, fun, and excitement. Whether you are into bikes and biking as a sport, as a profession, for exercise, for recreation, or for just plain fun, it is important to be responsible while biking, to ensure your safety and comfort. This article will cover some helpful information on purchasing a bike such as its types (mountain bike, road bike, hybrid bike, etc.), bike safety, and responsible biking.

Bike purchasing tips

Before setting out for the closest bike shop, it is important to know what kinds of bikes are out there and how to find the right one for you. There are basically three kinds of bikes for consumers to choose from. First is the road bike, which is designed for good traction and speed on paved streets. The road bike usually has a thin and lite frame that makes it ideal for rides that are long and fast. Second is the mountain bike. Mountain bikes are normally larger and chunkier than road bikes, since mountain bikes have to withstand the wear and tear of riding on bumpy, uneven surfaces. Mountain bikes usually have extra features such as shock absorbers, wide tires, and straight handlebars. The third kind of bike commonly used by cyclists is the hybrid bike. The hybrid normally has a lite frame, an upright seat, straight handlebars, and skinny tires, making it ideal for city-riding.

The next concern when purchasing a bike would be the rider’s comfort. To have a comfortable and safe ride, those purchasing a bike should be sure to get the right-sized frame for their body. Since each person has unique dimensions with regards to height, leg length, and arm length, there is no one-size-fits-all kind of bike. When purchasing bikes, spend time at the shop and get assistance from the salespeople. Ask which frame would suit your size best and try out various frames to see which is most comfortable. For even more comfort and safety, adjust the handlebars and seat position to ensure comfort, proper posture, and maneuverability.

Bike safety tips

Anyone who has a bike should know how to operate it and keep it well-maintained to ensure the rider’s safety. Bike instruction manuals provide helpful information on how to change, adjust, remove, and even assemble different parts of the bike. Aside from understanding how to adjust and fix the bike itself, it is also important for bike owners to know how to fix flat tires and change the chain. Another helpful safety tip is to do a three-point check before every ride:

1. Check the tires and breaks – Make sure that the tires are properly inflated and that all of the breaks are in proper working order.
2. Check the chain and gears – Ensure that the chain is properly seated on the gears and that no slipping occurs when changing between gears.
3. Check the bike frame, seat, and handlebars – Be sure that the frame is in good condition and that the seat and handlebars are adjusted to the rider’s comfort and that all parts are fastened tightly.

Responsible biking

Anyone who is thinking of biking regularly, especially those who live in the city, should be aware of their responsibilities as bikers. Bikers should be aware of all the rules, regulations, and policies that govern biking and the streets in general. Follow bike lanes, sidewalks, and bike paths as much as possible and try not to ride on the portions of the street designated for motor vehicles. Biking with a group or a parter also helps in being responsible and safe when biking. Finally, be sure to bring any important gear that may be needed along the trip or in case of emergency such as water, cell phone, extra tire tubes, patching kits, a little money, and a form of identification.

Financial Aid Information For Students

Posted under: Category |

Financial Aid is a wonderful program to help with the cost of college. It is a program that helps to supplement the cost of education and offers opportunities to those who otherwise may not have the means to further their education.

The first step to receiving financial aid is to filling out the free application for federal student aid. This is the agency that determines what the family contribution should be. The difference between the cost of attendance and expected contribution for a student, determines how much funds should be awarded based on need. There are some programs that are based on merit or are non-need based and can replace expected contributions from a family source.

By applying early, several funding sources for assistance can be considered. An eligible student with demonstrated need should not be denied the opportunity to attend college. Though the maze of financial aid can be intimidating, if it is taken on a step at a time it’s as easy as drawing a line from A to B.

Begin by determining your eligibility to participate in federal, state and local financial aid assistance. Once you have determined that you are a good candidate for eligibility, apply for and receive your financial aid. After your initial application for Federal Student Aid, the remainder of the process should be completed at your prospective college or university. The Financial Aid office can be very helpful with this process.

To ensure your success, plan a college education budget. Understand the policies and procedures that will affect your financial aid experience; and if a student loan is part of your budget be sure you understand all the repayment options. Another important financial aid opportunity that you can’t afford to overlook is the work-study program. Often you will be given a part time job within your college or university to help you with expenses. With proper planning, nearly anyone can obtain a good education.

I’ve been working in a public school classroom in California and have noticed that their first aid kit is not stocked very well (basically has a few band aids, alcohol wipes and a few gloves). I’ve been looking online to see if I could find what the requirements are as far as first aid kits in classrooms. Or, are they fine as long as the supplies are in the office?

Check with the schools administrator, coordinator, or nurse. California doesn’t have a set standard for first aid kits.

Vertical Blinds To Aid In The Reconstruction

Posted under: Category |

Some people have trouble deciding between vertical blinds and shades. It can be a tough decision and many of just do not know where to start with our interior decorating plans. The best recommendation that can be made is to start at the window and to work your way around the room. Make the window the focal point of what you want to do. Start there and work your way out. This is your true source for natural light and will be where everyone is drawn to anyways. Look into what you can use and what the different things are that you can do to play off of the window treatment that you decide on. Use all aspects of the room and a variety of different things to make it all come together. It seems to be best to start with a specific theme or plan that you want to meet or achieve. Then put everything together to make it happen. Remember though that you need to start with your window treatment first as this is where everyone will be drawn.

Consider your different selections to use in the window treatments. Look into shades or blinds, possibly curtains or a valence. You may even decide to use a combination of any of these things to make it all come together. Try to be creative but keep in mind your budget as well as your goals so as to make it a success. Find something that all of the aspects of your room design will be able to somehow connect to. You are looking for harmony and flow in the room to create continuity and make the visitors feel comfortable while they are in the room.

Your next challenge will be to determine how far it is that you wan to go with this. Do you only want to do one room or are you looking to remake your entire house. Determine if you are doing your entire home if you want separate themes for each room or if you want all of the rooms to have continuity. It is up to you. Do you want to show a different side of you or whoever lives in each room or are you looking for uniformity. Make a decision and then make a budget. Make sure what you do is affordable and makes sense. Also, do not forget that this is your vision so be sure to see it through and do what you really want.
